When I wrote Behind the Bloom, I showed you the boutique. This time I want to show you the part nobody sees: how a drop actually gets made.
It starts with a feeling, not a spreadsheet. Every season begins with a mood. A color I keep coming back to, a texture I can't stop touching, a silhouette I want to live in. I jot it all down long before I place a single order.
Then comes the hunt. I go through hundreds of pieces to find the handful worth bringing in, and quality is where most of them lose me. I'm looking for fabric with real weight and a good hand feel, seams that are finished properly, and material that will hold its shape and color after you've washed it more than once. I'd rather pay more for something well made than fill the shop with pieces that look great in a photo and fall apart by the third wear. If the fabric feels cheap, the fit only works on one body type, or I can't picture styling it three different ways, it doesn't make the cut.
Then I build the puzzle. This is the part that takes the longest. I'm not just picking pretty pieces, I'm trying to pull together a small group that all works together, so seven or eight things can turn into a dozen different outfits. I lay them out, swap tops and bottoms, add a layer, take it away, and keep going until the whole group earns its place. If a piece only works one way, it gets cut. Naming the collection once it finally comes together is its own little challenge.
The fit test is non-negotiable. Before anything goes live, it gets tried on. I want to know how it moves, whether it wrinkles the second you sit down, and if it runs true to size, so I can tell you honestly.
Last, I put it on. The photos show each piece on a model, but the real test is me wearing it on video and live. That's where you see how something actually moves and how it hangs on a real body. It's also when the Style Tip clicks, usually because someone watching asks how I'd wear it.
By the time a drop goes live, it's been through weeks of this. That's why the collection stays small on purpose. I'd rather give you twenty pieces I genuinely love than two hundred I'm indifferent about.
Curious what's next? New arrivals land regularly, and Cotton Candy Club drops show up whenever the moment feels right. Come hang out on a live and ask me how I'd style anything you're eyeing.
